Phew, it’s been already a week since the Battle ended and I just can’t believe yet that it’s over… I’m free!! xD After a couple of days of revival and getting back to reality, I can finally sit down to write a proper report on the event. I’ll be posting it the next days to come. With pictureesss!

But first things first, I wanted to start saying thank you to all the players that participated in the event for coming. To each one of you, a heartfelt thank you for making the effort of coming all the way to the venue to make of this game the only one that matters. It has never been so true when we say that this is an event made for players by players: from the ones coming from faraway lands, to those who helped us to setup the tables. To the setup crew, the list is too long to be written, but just to mention a few: Kabe, Alquimista the Dragonbro (and the mighty chicken), Marlowe, Sato, Goblin… Long long list. Thank you so much guys for your helping hand!

Thanks also to those that helped organizing the side events: Beregond and Willy and all the hackers that took the wall for one day, and to the Jedis and Siths that fought for the Galaxy. Thank you for coming and making it even more fun. To the referees, for sharing their time and knowledge.

Special mention to the great Masi, our guide in our beginnings of the game, the creator of Casterly Rock blog, the one that taught us the Lannister spirit of evil and control, the man that showed us that there is no thing that can’t be solved with a Distraction. He came out of no were, motu proprio, to bring us two boxes of House of Thorns to give away as special prizes. I cannot tell you how happy I was to see him coming and supporting us in such a way. Maese Masi, we miss you!

Great thanks also to those players that made the effort of coming from their countries to support the tournament with their presence. Thanks to the amazing Helmut, the very first player that was registered in the tournament! Thanks to Ross, for leaving the British rain and welcoming the Spanish rain; you’re a blast. Of course, thank you to the Italian crew for being so awesome!!! Gualdo and his communist love, Jaquen, Michael, Michele… (Alan we missed you!!). I cannot tell you how awesome it was to have you here, brothers in arms!! Also a special mention to Stefano, the current European champion, for being always so immensely supportive with us. We hope to give you back the favor in Milano!

One of the biggest hits of the event was to have the cards signed by John Bruno, current World Champ; great player, great person, awesome guy. He made of the giveaways an ongoing craziness. John, we cannot tell you how grateful we are for your support and friendship!!

Thanks of course to all our generous sponsors, that one more time trusted us with their support (yay for AGOTcards! Wohoo). In difficult economic times like this, it’s is specially appreciated. Thanks also to Wolfgang with his support with the bye round for the winner, and to all organizers of the European Tournament Circuit. Next stop: Milano!

And what can we say of Nacho Molina, our personal Komarck. He has been 50% of the tournament (being the other 50% his house cards). He’s professional, talented, and great guy. Thanks for being so great.
The truth is that these last months have been completely crazy with work and effort, wanting to do things right for you guys to enjoy at max. Everything went smooth and on time, thanks to your help and support. Despite all obstacles on the way, we had but kind words of support from everyone. I cannot express how much this meant to us, not being an official tournament. You have made this possible guys!

I want to end this cheesy post giving my biggest thank you to my partners in crime, for their professionalism, eagerness and, overall, for being such amazing guys. The web and its insides, the pairings and the computers, our tech guy: Raxar son of Raxar. And Aioria, well, he’s the true soul of all this: Designing the playmats, cards, prizes, sponsor contacts, checking the email, the list of participants, contact with Bruno and Nacho, and an infinite etc. You’re the best guys.

I promise that my next post will be picture heavy, and much more fun. Just wait for the Dragonbro’s chickin’, just wait…

Stay frosty everyone!

Friday: “It’s Friday, Friday Gotta get down on Friday"

-Credits to Alqui-reporte on Mas allá del Muro Forum. Just couldn’t leave some things out.

Finally!! The preparations for the Battle are at their end, and the very first players are arriving to Madrid. Unfortunately, I had to work in the evening, so it was Alquimista time to receive the Italian crew in the airport. Taking their chances they followed him to the hostel, successfully; Somalia will have to wait for another time. Meeting point: Padis. Helmut joined the crew, along with never tired Kabe and his special guest for the event, Ross. How he managed to convince Ross to stay at his place will always be something mysterious to me; he has seemed to survive though. Lots of playtesting; they just couldn’t get enough with a whole weekend of playing?

Sorry about the bad quality of the pics, I forgot my camera and just had my phone.

Anyhow, dinner is dinner, with no better end that an “All you can eat” restaurant, with rivers of wine flowing through the valiant knights throats. The bienvenue dinner was being a success, featuring as the new side events: “jelly-swallowing”, “deep banana” and “chocolate or not...” Fortunately, the organization was far away enough not to watch the following events. We just heard the noises; they will replace the whales in my nightmares. I can’t even. Ugh.

Italian crew is giving it all!

Saturday: “The lord of the chickens: The community of the chickin’”

Alquimista had made quite sure to make his presence noticeable in the tournament by buying the almighty chicken that would bind them all into darkness. If you know what I mean.

[International Circuit-Madrid 16th, 17th March] Batlle for the Wall - Page 5 IMG_0394_zpsf7a0cb3c
Oh hello chicken, can I HAS some morning Alquimista?

The first day is always madness, especially if the venue does not open the day before to do the setup of the tables, computer, etc. So at 10 a.m., as soon as it opened, a crew of helping friends gave us a hand to setup everything to begin ASAP. I cannot tell you how important this was. Thanks to everybody’s help the tournament started quite soon, and without further problems. Raxar did his thing with the computer while I tried to manage the general development of the event. A long long day was awaiting; 7 rounds more specifically.

All the contestants fought with their very best. Crying noises could be heard among the crowd; swords were clashing, cards were played, blood was spilled… You know the deal. 73 people doing their best to honor the only game that matters. In between rounds we started with the giveaways.

The prizes for the winners of the challenges and best of each house.

The best 16 yet had to prove a lot on the next day, so the ones not having to do so proceeded to drink their throats off. After 2 pints of beer I was too tired to keep on with the party and went home to faint on my bed. Another crazy day was waiting for me. But I’ve heard stories of the ones that did go out; stories say that they finally managed to bring the chickin’ to Mount Doom to save the Middle Earth.

Sunday: Hail Reek, the almighty son of a…

Reek did too many bad things on this day not to be mentioned in the title. Like stealing a Lord Beric Dondarrion with 8 power on him. True story.

The day began as the previous: mad. On Sunday we had the Melee tournament, The driver not the car, Netrunner and Star Wars side events. Not bad. Many players hadn’t made it from last night, so the room was less crowded of agot players, replaced by the NR and SW new guests. And so it begins.

[International Circuit-Madrid 16th, 17th March] Batlle for the Wall - Page 5 IMG_0517_zps9d00c8cc
NR, Hacking the Iron Throne.

[International Circuit-Madrid 16th, 17th March] Batlle for the Wall - Page 5 IMG_0528_zpsb30cb97e
SW, anyone?

We waited for the top 16 round to end, so the loosing players could join other side events. When the top 8 was set in a separate room, the events started.

TOP 8

The prints by Magali Villeneuve given as prizes in the driver not the car event were too juicy to ignore, so only 8 players decided to go for the Melee instead of the 21 crazy people playing the driver. I had to manage both side events, while Willy and Beregondd did their thing with NR, Raxar with SW and Aioria supervised the TOP. Here again, I have to thank all the collaborators for their inestimable help. We couldn’t have made it without you. ^^

@Maekar: We missed you very much as well. We´'ll be waiting for you, champion! You can also come for holidays, there won't be so much playing (maybe..?) but the good people and the party will. Just let us know!

Also, when are you going to do a Battle for New Dehli? Arthur! We're waiting for the announcement!
